UNOPS vehicles leave from Dubai to Palestine

Dubai, UAE, June 14, 2007: The six new vehicles of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), funded by a donation from Emaar Properties, recently departed from the International Humanitarian City (IHC) for Palestine. The vehicles will upgrade the Al Mintar/Karni Border Crossing Project, a commercial border crossing by UNOPS that supports trade activities in Gaza.

The Emaar-branded four 80-seater and two 30-seater buses will transit through Saudi Arabia and Jordan en route to Gaza, where they will be handed over to General Mosbah Al Buheisi of the Palestinian Presidential Guard, responsible for Karni Crossing. Buheisi will officially accept the vehicles on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian people at a dedication ceremony.

Mr Arif Amiri, Director - Investor Relations, Corporate Governance & Business Development, Emaar Properties, said: “Emaar’s support of the UNOPS project is a reiteration of our commitment to the Palestinian people and the Arab world. The vehicles will further support the Karni Crossing Project, which has a key role in facilitating Palestine’s trade activities.”

UNOPS is the implementing agency for many United Nations development and humanitarian initiatives in conflict, post-conflict, and emergency environments. The UNOPS Middle East Office in Dubai is located at the International Humanitarian City (IHC), the global humanitarian hub created by the Government of Dubai and chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein.
